Headache is a painful sensation in any part of the head, ranging from sharp to dull, that may occur with other symptoms. Globally, it has been estimated that prevalence among adults of current headache disorder is about 50%. Half to three quarters of adults aged 18–65 years in the world have had headache in the last year and, among those individuals, 30% or more have reported migraine. In Ayurveda Head ache in common is compared with Shirashoola and according to sign, symptoms and condition its termed as Ardhavabhedaka, Sooryavarta etc.

Causes: Causes of Headache can be categorized under,  Primary Headaches and Secondary Headaches.

Primary headache is caused by the over activity of pain-sensitive structures in head. A primary headache is not a symptom of an underlying disease.

Some primary headaches can be triggered by lifestyle factors such as Alcohol Intake, lack of sleep, Skipped meals, Stress etc.

Secondary headache is a symptom of a disease which activate the pain sensitive nerves of the head.

A most common cause of secondary Headaches are

Treatment of Headaches in Ayurveda

Ayurveda treatment mainly focus in promoting Doshic Balance by prescribing oral medication, adopting Panchakarma therapy (Detoxification) such as Nasya (Installation of medicated oil through nose) swedana (sudation) etc. Which pacify the aggravated vata dosha, nourishes the indriyas (Sense organs) and muscles there by helps to reduce the symptoms of headache
