Case study on Lumbago

Lumbago is the general name used to refer low back pain. It is caused due to many reasons such as lack of physical activity, prolong sitting, poor posture, trauma, weakness of joint and muscles. Usually the lumbago will be a dull kind of pain. it may have associated with stabbing/shooting sensation, muscle spasm, stiffness, tenderness.

Lumbago is just a pain caused due to sedentary lifestyle without any structural or functional deformities of the lumbar vertebras. Desk top workers and drivers are at high risk to get this lumbago. if it is untreated, it may lead to severe pain and may cause difficulties in day-today activities. It is important to consult with a health care specialist  for lower backpain treatment.

Here at VHG we do see an N number of clients with lumbago and get better with the combination of treatments followed by yoga therapy. We educate the clients regarding cause and solution for their problem and help in preventing further problems.

Case at VHG

A male patient 42 years old came with the complaint of pain in lower back since 2 months. Pain was on and off before and then became worst in the last 3 days. Severe pain made him to stop his all work and was suffering lot even after taking many pain killers. There was no evidence for his lumbar vertebral changes. Here at VHG he took the treatments and medicines after the consultation.

Treatment at VHG

He underwent through 7days of Ayurveda external therapies, acupuncture followed by yoga therapy for 5days.

Pre & post changes

Visual analogue scale & PDR Oswestry neck pain questionnaires are used to assess her pain before and after the treatment. Visual analogue scale (VAS) is one pf the pain rating scale. Numeral rating scale is the most commonly used rating scale in VAS were 0 represents no pain and 10 is the worst pain. Patient came with the VAS -8 and it got reduced to 1 after the treatment and it was almost the negligible.

Advised him to do yoga regularly and follow the basic discipline of lifestyle.

Conclusion – combination of Ayurveda, yoga and acupuncture helped him to recover from his lumbago.
