Occupational stress refers to the ongoing or progressing stress an employee experiences due to the responsibilities, conditions, environment, or other pressures of the workplace. Job stress results when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the workers.

  • Job demands such as work overload, long work hours, lack of task control, role ambiguity.
  • Financial and economic factors such as unsatisfied salary and increment etc.

Symptoms

The feeling of being tired and having a lack of energy all the time is considered as the most common symptom of stress. Other symptoms are insomnia, palpitation, anxiety, tension headaches, depressive features, indigestion and constipation.

Work stress can also lead to musculoskeletal disorders like Back pain, neck pain and pain in the elbow.
