Embryo Quality Improvement with an Integrative Approach

A 34-year-old woman had been struggling with infertility for three years. Despite undergoing two rounds of Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and two cycles of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), both attempts were unsuccessful due to poor egg and embryo quality. Given these challenges, her fertility specialist recommended an integrative approach at Vivekananda Health Global (VHG) to enhance her chances of conception.

Intervention

At VHG, she followed a structured, integrative fertility program combining:

  • Ayurveda Panchakarma Therapy: Detoxification to remove metabolic waste and enhance reproductive health.
  • Acupuncture: To improve blood circulation to the ovaries and uterus, thereby supporting egg quality.
  • Yoga Therapy: Customized asanas and pranayama techniques to reduce stress, regulate hormones, and optimize fertility.

This holistic approach aimed to address underlying imbalances and create a conducive environment for conception.

Results: Pre and Post-Embryo Quality Changes

Before starting the integrative approach:

  • The patient’s egg quality was poor, leading to low fertilization rates.
  • Embryo development was suboptimal, with poor grading on day 3 and day 5 embryos.
  • High oxidative stress and inflammation markers were noted, which could contribute to failed implantation.

After three months of the integrative intervention:

  • Egg quality significantly improved, leading to a higher fertilization rate in the subsequent IVF cycle.
  • Embryo quality improved, with better blastocyst formation and grading compared to previous cycles.
  • Reduced oxidative stress, as observed in blood biomarkers.
  • The patient successfully conceived through IVF.

Conclusion

This case study highlights the effectiveness of an integrative approach in improving embryo quality. By addressing systemic health factors through Ayurveda, acupuncture, and personalised yoga therapy, the patient overcame previous fertility challenges, ultimately achieving a successful conception through IVF. This underscores the importance of a holistic perspective in reproductive health.
